Agnes Wheel
er, co-owner of Boulevard Caffe at 143 W. Prospect Ave.
, and her father
Chris M
iscierewicz,
were approved for a restaurant hours extension from 10 p.m. until
midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at a Mount Prospect Village
Hall meeting last week.
“We’d
like to have the same rights as any other restaurant in Mount
Prospect,” Wheeler said. “A lot of people have been turned away or go
somewhere else later because we were only open until 10 o’clock.”
The pair opened the European-style restaurant, which serves 60 different beers and seats about 40 diners, in August 2008.
The restaurant features upper-class dining with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices.
The diner will remain open on weekdays from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Although Wheeler requested
to extend
Boulevard Caffe’s weekend
hours
from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., she and her father are happy with the decision to remain open until midnight
. This addition will allow guests more time to dine on Friday and Saturday nights, Wheeler said.
“Our
weekends aren’t that great, and a big reason for that is because of the
hours,” she said. “One of our priorities is to continue to be good
neighbors, and we haven’t received any complaints since we opened.”
Wheeler
and Boulevard Caffe’s guests wanted the restaurants to remain open as
long as others in the area. The restaurant enjoys being a member of
Mount Prospect’s tight-knit community, she says.
“We just wanted to be a successful business and help Mount Prospect grow, too,” she said. “We’re happy to be a part of it.”
In
2007, some residents voiced concern about having vehicles on the street
from late-night Boulevard Caffe diners. Per the parking lease
agreement, Wheeler and her father limited the restaurant’s hours to 10
p.m. until this extension.
“With
the way economy is, when we opened is when all of it started hitting,”
she said. “We’re doing our best to remain open by increasing business
on the weekends.”
